Scenic Rim Region

Adjacent to the north-eastern borders of New South Wales, the Scenic Rim Region is a Local Government Area within the West Moreton Region of Queensland, approximately 64.9 kilometres south of Brisbane, the state capital. The community has an estimated population of 38,304 residents over a 4,256-square-kilometre area. Thanks to its geographical location, tourism is one of its most important industries.

The Scenic Rim Region was established in March 2008 from the merging of the Shires of Beaudesert and Boonah, and sections of the City of Ipswich. Although Beaudesert Regional Council was the first proposed name for the new Local Government Area, its present name was chosen as a reference to its mountainous setting. The community's main localities are Aratula, Beaudesert, Boonah, Canungra, Harrisville, Kalbar, Kooralbyn, Peak Crossing, Rathdowney, and Tamborine Mountain.

With the town of Beaudesert as its Council Seat, the Scenic Rim Region is represented in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland by the Electoral District of Beaudesert, and by the Federal Division of Wright in the Australian House of Representatives. It is bordered by the Local Government Areas of Gold Coast, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley, Logan, and Southern Downs, along with the Kyogle and Tweed LGAs of New South Wales.

Nestled on the foothills of the Great Dividing Range and surrounded by a number of national parks, the Scenic Rim Region is an excellent starting point for exploring a number of tourism hotspots in the region. Notable open spaces in and around the area include Andrew Drynan Park, Bigriggen Park and Reserve, Binna Burra Mountain Campsite, Burgess Park, Darlington Park, Flanagan Reserve, Green Mountains Campground, Lake Moogerah, Lamington National Park, Mount Barney National Park, Mount Chinghee National Park, Plunkett Conservation Park, Sharp Park, Stinson Park, and Tamborine National Park.
